She makes me feel better than Townes Van Zandt
Well they say that the truth is stranger than fiction
And telling tall tales is part of my addiction
But I'll tell you a story about a Monday night
When everything went all right
It all really started on the Sunday afternoon
I was practising my guitar alone in my room
When I got this phone call from this certain honey
I'd been trying to get to know her
She'd been driving me crazy
She said we should go to a show tomorrow night
Tickets were a bit pricey but I said all right
So we met at the Corner Bar and oh what a scene
They wouldn't let her in she was wearing ripped jeans
So we went and got burgers full of egg plant
And went upstairs to a concert by
Townes Van Zandt
Well this guy had songs could make a grown man cry
And my friend looked stunning with a promise in her eye
Now I'm prone to raving and I love to rant
But she makes me feel better than
Townes Van Zandt
Soon the show was over so we went for a drive
Harbour bridge ,Deveport, all that jazz
We looked at the lights I ran my fingers through her hair she said
'take me back to your place ' I was floating on air
So we started to drive home but we didn't get far
Got pulled over by an unmarked police car
There were two detectives to talk to me
Something to do with some armed robbery
Now I was impatient on this cold windy night
But these guys had guns so I was ultra polite
My friend stayed in the car and they left he alone
And after a lot of questions they let us drive home
So we got back to my place and I lit up a fire
And I sang some songs for my hearts desire
Well I write my own songs and I sometimes do covers
And it's always a pleasure to sing for a lover
Well she sat by the fire and she nodded her head
Then she took out her contacts and got into my bed
Well I'm prone to raving and I love to rant
And she makes me feel better than
Townes Van Zandt
So that's where this story has got to end
Because some things are private between me and my friend
But I'm prone to raving and I love to rant
And she makes me feel better than Townes Van Zandt
